Artificial Intelligence and Software

In May 2023 at an ML/AI Meetup event in San Francisco, I met an older gentleman who shared that he’d witnessed several technological waves: the dot-com boom, the rise of cloud computing, and more recently blockchain/cryptocurrency. He stated entering this new era of AI development feels more profound than the others, more substantive.

A fundamental of AI is that designers merely specify a system of constraints, leaving a statistical entity to optimize upon data from there. Waiting at a red light while driving home at night, I wonder why traffic lights aren’t efficiently operating under such a system: maximizing grid-level traffic flow while minimizing wait time, collectively managed by a distributed online agent.

I am a machine learning engineer with a theoretic backing in computer science, have hands-on software experience in biotechnology and robotic applications, and an automation background in the aerospace and automotive industries.

I build intelligent systems to solve real world problems. I work to innovate technology and believe in open collaboration, mistakes are forgotten with quick iteration, and an overall emphasis on strong engineering. I consider us to be in the era of the great builder. Thanks for visiting, and feel free to reach out.

I work onsite as a senior software engineer at Synthego for the Advanced Technologies Group, creating software systems with Python since March 2019. I also took graduate computer science coursework in artificial intelligence at Stanford part-time between January 2021 and June 2023. I completed enough graduate artificial intelligence coursework to almost fulfill the depth portion of a master’s in computer science, specializing in AI.

I grew up in New England and received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a minor in economics at the University of Pittsburgh. I informally specialized in robotics and was very active within Pittsburgh’s Robotics Club. I summer interned in 2016 within Tesla’s powertrain manufacturing operations doing machine vision. I graduated from Pittsburgh in April 2017, then moved to California to work for SpaceX as an automation engineer in vehicle engineering’s propulsion components test team. By this time, I had really caught the software bug, so in 2019 I joined Synthego’s innovation team as a software engineer.
