In my junior year at Pitt, I took MEMS1049: Mechatronics, a practical class on embedded systems and hardware. The final project was to use mechatronics concepts to play a snippet of the Star Spangled Banner.
My two partners and I chose to build a slide whistle from scratch, controlled with two ATmega328P microcontrollers. We breadboarded a graphics equalizer using an FFT chip, and incorporated a motor drive, stepper motor, and timing belt for slide control.
